I AM Family Ministries was born out of compassion and faith a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda whose lives were shattered by the cholera outbreak and AIDS epidemic in the late 1990s.
In 1999, in a small neighborhood of Kampala, Pastor Ponsiano Lwakatale and his wife were struggling to feed their family of thirteen. Each month, they relied on a single 50-kilogram sack of maize and another of rice carefully counting every grain to make it last.
But one month, their food ran out too soon. The pastor soon discovered that his 8-year-old daughter, Omega, had been secretly taking scoops of maize and rice to feed a friend a little girl who had just lost her father to cholera.
Shocked and frustrated, Pastor Lwakatale confronted Omega. When he demanded to know why she had given away their food, her innocent reply pierced his heart:
“If you beat me for giving to the needy, can you still be a pastor?”
Her words stopped him cold. In that moment, he realized his daughter’s compassion reflected the true heart of God and that beyond his own home, there were countless children hungering not only for food, but for love, hope, and care.
That simple act of kindness sparked a movement of mercy that would change lives forever.
From One Act of Love to a Family of Hope
What began with one little girl’s generosity has grown into a ministry that now reaches thousands. From that small home in Kampala, I AM Family Ministries has blossomed into:

A Ministry for All
Today, I AM Family Ministries serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.
What began with a little girl’s heart of compassion continues to grow, driven by the same message that started it all:
Isaiah 58:6-7 describes the kind of fast God truly desires: it’s not a ritualistic display of abstinence but an act of justice and compassion that includes setting the oppressed free, sharing food with the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless, and clotheing the naked. This true fast involves actively working to remove injustice and meet the needs of others, rather than just afflicting oneself.
Compassion for the Poor:Sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the homeless poor into your home, and providing clothes for the naked.Authentic Care:Not turning away from your own relatives, but showing genuine concern for those in need.
Through every program, every song, and every child’s smile, I AM Family Ministries stands as a living testimony of how one small act of love can ignite hope and transform nations.
Our perspective
Vision
Our vision is to nurture honest God-fearing leaders of tomorrow, and provide for five basic needs of each child that He brings us: food, shelter, clothing, education, and parental love.
What we believe
Values
God: I AM Family Ministries is a Christian organization. We believe in the one God. We believe in the Trinity. We believe within the nature of the one true God there are three co-equal, co-eternal, co-loving persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus: We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. We believe Jesus lived a perfect life and shed His blood for our sins by dying on a cross. We believe Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven.
Salvation: We believe that all who put their faith in Jesus and repent from their sins will have eternal life in heaven with God.
The Bible: We believe that God speaks to us through His Bible – both Old and New Testaments. The Bible is without error in its original writings and authoritative in guiding our faith.
